Brazil Travel Guide: Brazil’s Decade Of Sport

Today’s news that Rio de Janeiro is to host the 2016 Olympics is the latest in a list of major sporting milestones for Brazil, an indication of the country’s meteoric rise as a leading player on the world stage.

Rio’s selection, beating fierce competition from tough rivals Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo, means that the Olympics, one of the world’s best known and most watched events, will be held in South America for the first time, confirming Rio’s status as a truly global city.
